LIDAR og Range-Gated undervandskamera: Nye muligheder for måling af svømmende fisk

Undersøg videokameraets fysiske grænser og usikkerhederne ved afstand- og størrelsesmålinger af objekter i havet fx svømmende fisk du ikke kan skelne med øjet eller med et konventionelt kamera.

Range-gated imaging provide 2-3 times increased imaging range and additional 3D information.

The UTOFIA project targets technology that can overcome the limitations created by scattering, by introducing cost-efficient range-gated imaging for underwater applications. Range-gated imaging is an acquisition principle which extends the imaging range of cameras 2-3 times and can also simultaneously capture 3D data. Recent technology developments have made it possible to achieve range-gated sensors using semiconductors.

These LiDAR (or Time-of-Flight) sensors were originally developed to capture 3D images in air, and are now commercially available. This semiconductor technology makes possible a significant (2-3 times) reduction in size, complexity and cost of underwater imaging systems, whilst addressing the scattering issues at the same time.

Increased imaging range and 3D information improves data quality, safety and cost-efficiency.
